This month marks the opening of Champlain College’s brand new student housing complex at 194 Saint Paul Street at the corner of King Street and Saint Paul Street in downtown.
As of August 20th, the building will open 53 spaces of publicly available downtown parking located in two separate garages on the property, including a CarShare VT pod! Prior to the new development, the Browns Court metered lot provided 40 metered spaces, resulting in a net gain of 13 public spaces. People who bicycle will also have ample public outdoor bike-rack options on the outside of the building and within the parking garages, with indoor secure bike parking located within the building for residents.
194 Saint Paul will be publicly accessible seven days a week, twenty-four hours a day and will charge for parking Monday through Sunday, from 9am-9pm. The initial parking rate for 194 Saint Paul will be $1.50 per hour, Monday through Sunday, 9am-9pm. Payment will be accepted via Parkmobile (Zone # 5815) or multi-space kiosks via credit card or coin. Our data collection efforts will continue to ensure our rate and parking policies are aligned with the industry-standard goal of 85% utilization.
To facilitate parking in the garage, the City of Burlington has installed three self service payment kiosks. Two of them can be found in the South Garage off Maple Street and the other is located in the North Garage off King Street.
These 53 spaces will help mitigate the temporary loss of parking on Saint Paul Street due to the Great Streets project, which is expected to kick off on August 27th. Great Streets will help transform Saint Paul into a more a vibrant, walkable and sustainable street in our downtown. The Burlington Police Department (BPD) will continue to enforce parking in all City-run parking facilities and at on-street meters, including 194 Saint Paul Street. BPD will add 194 Saint Paul Street to their list of enforced facilities. View more information on enforcement here!
