On December 31st, Burlington will welcome a brand new citywide New Year’s Eve celebration.
Created as a partnership between Signal Kitchen and Burlington City Arts, Highlight will take place at locations across the City and include: a parade, bonfire, concerts, hands on creative activities and more. The new event intends to build on Burlington’s long-running First Night celebrations but to extend the party beyond the downtown.

New year’s revelers arriving by car are encouraged to utilize the event’s two central parking locations at UVM’s Gutterson Lot (147 Spear Street) and Champlain College’s Miller Center Lot (175 Lakeside Avenue). Green Mountain Transit will run two free shuttle routes from these locations from 1 p.m. until 12:30 a.m. which will depart every 30 minutes – on the hour and half hour.
The East-West Shuttle route will pick attendees up from the Gutterson Lot and bring them downtown via Main St., stopping at Edmunds Middle School, City Hall Park, and the Waterfront Interchange located outside of the Echo Center (where you can switch to the North-South route if desired).
The South End shuttle will pick up riders at the Miller Center and drop them off at the Burlington waterfront, ONE Community Center or Elmwood Avenue.
Green Mountain Transit will also operate its daily College Street shuttle, which will run on its normal schedule and be available to pick up riders at the Waterfront Interchange.
All City parking garages (College Street, Lakeview and Marketplace) will operate under a $5 flat fee beginning at 4 p.m. (The 4-hours-free promotion that has been in place since November will end at that time.)
