City construction crews are currently at work on upgrades to the Burlington Greenway between North Beach and Shore Road. Currently the path is closed to traffic and will remain so until May 17th.
In this important stretch of the Greenway, crews are completely replacing the surface to improve functionality and safety. Intersections in New North End neighborhoods are also being improved.
During the Greenway closure, a detour will open from Institute Road to Shore Road. Travel on the Greenway north of Shore Rd. and south of North Beach will remain open.
During the closure, the top layer of asphalt will be applied, lines and other pavement markings will be painted, and the final shoulder gravel, topsoil, seed, mulch and landscaping will be installed.
The project also includes new entry ways on the bike path. Recently, work was completed on formal entry on to the path from Killarney Drive, after neighbors asked for the path to be improved.
This spring’s construction comes on the heels of the Phase 2b upgrades that began last summer and were completed in March. All of the work is designed to be completed and ready for use by the Vermont City Marathon on May 27th.
