Problems with Parking in Burlington, VT

Since an increase in parking prices in Burlington went into effect in November of 2014, residents, commuters and visitors have had to be more creative when considering parking downtown.

In a meeting following the rate change, one resident, Shannon Dufour-Martinez, claims that her building once had a backyard, but currently the area is being used as a parking lot since the majority of the residents can no longer afford the parking downtown.

According to town officials, parking is available if ‘you know where to look’. This raises important questions about how to direct drivers, especially visitors to these available spaces. Another issue addressed was in regards to the reality that half of the spaces in the City are reserved for private use, making it even harder to understand where drivers can or can not park their cars.
