
The University of Vermont will be holding its 218th Commencement Ceremony this Sunday and whether you’re in town to see someone accept a diploma or just trying to navigate downtown, there are closures that you should be aware of.
Beginning at 7 a.m. on Friday, University Place will be closed from Colchester Avenue to Main Street, as will South Prospect Street from College Street to the University Health Center entrance. These streets will be reopened on Sunday at 8 a.m.
The most significant closures will take place on Sunday when South Prospect Street will be closed from Colchester Avenue to Main Street, and College Street will be closed from South Prospect Street to South Williams Street. Also on Sunday, the northernmost west bound lane on Main Street from University Heights to South Prospect Street will be closed from 5 a.m. to 6 p.m.
For those attending commencement ceremonies, specific parking locations are available for each college and school’s commencement ceremony. These can be found on UVM’s website. Parking on nearby residential streets is by city permit only. Violators are subject to City of Burlington policy of ticketing and towing.
Shuttle buses will be running on both Saturday and Sunday. Saturday’s bus service will run from 1:30 – 5:30 p.m. The route will operate between the Jeffords Lot, Ira Allen Chapel and Davis Center Oval for the Honors College Scholars Recognition Ceremony and Reception.
On Sunday, buses will run every 10 minutes from designated bus stops at Patrick Gym, Royall Tyler Theatre, Given Lot, Jeffords Lot, Davis Center Oval, and the Catamount East Lot. Service will continue from 7:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m.
